HOUSE KEEPING

Arriving

It is fine to unpack the car when you arrive either in front of the house or at the end of the garden. Parking is in the village car park at the start of the village opposite the post office – it is a short walk back either along the road or can be done through the fields at the back of the house. We will have either sent you a set of keys and/or there will be a key in the key safe, we will tell you the code before you go.

General

Inside the house you will find the following:

  • Beside the fire place there is a folder containing local information e.g. walks, sights, events, maps
  • The fire runs on logs which can be bought from the local store and many local petrol stations
  • Inside the picnic basket is a CD stereo
  • Under the stairs there is a BBQ
  • There are games, toys, a few books and DVDs etc in the baskets next to the chest and in the wall cupboard next to the chest
  • Candles, bulbs etc are in the kitchen right hand side wall cupboard above the crockery
  • Pots, pans and plates etc are all in the cupboards in the kitchen
  • Washing and cleaning stuff are mostly under the sink, the mop and brush are in the cupboard under the stairs
  • Grass cutter, mop and brushes are in the cupboard under the stairs
  • There is one king-sized, one double and two single duvets plus six pillows in the cottage
  • Gas stop cock is outside the front of the house; water stop cock is in front of house and under the sink; electricity trip switch is under the front bay window seat
  • If the water pressure is running low (under 1 bar on the boiler) then there is a black knob under the base of the boiler (in the centre) which can be turned to let more water into the system. Add water until the pressure is at about 2 bar, then close off again
  • There is a microwave and washing machine in the kitchen

Please feel free to use everything in the house except...our surfboards and wetsuits (precious and valuable to us) and the telephone (01271-870938 for incoming calls), although should it be essential to use the phone please send us the money for its use.

There should be some bits and pieces such as sugar, salt & pepper and a few pots of herbs which you are welcome to use. If you ‘consume’ anything else please replace it, or if you break something then let me know so that we can try and sort it out prior to the next visitors – thanks.

What to bring

The cottage has most things, but there are some things that you will need to bring yourself…

  • Bed linen and towels
  • Extra duvets / blankets if needed – there is one king size, one double and two single duvets there already
  • DVDs, CDs, books and magazines
  • Food and drink
  • Don’t forget your swimming trunks!

Practical stuff

There should be two wheelie bins at the end of the front garden, by the gate. One green for garden rubbish and one black for household rubbish. These are collected on alternate weeks on a Thursday morning. Would you please check which of the two bins the neighbours put out and then put the relevant bin outside the gate on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning (the bin schedule is also in the cottage file next to the fire place). It will not be collected if left inside the gate and this had led to a ‘rubbish issue’ in the past.

Leaving

Before you leave here’s a few things to do…

  • A thorough clean throughout e.g. sweep and mop the floors, clean cooker, clean bath and shower. For the hassle free option book our cleaner, for £24 she does everything except washing up and emptying the bins. Please let us know soon as possible if you would like us to book her for the end of your stay.

  • Empty all the perishable items out of the fridge

  • Empty all the bins, put the rubbish into the relevant wheelie bin and make sure the wheelie bins are back inside the gate. Please do use the bins otherwise the crows pick through the plastic bag and then the wind blows the contents everywhere!

  • Turn the heating back to the original setting that you found it on i.e. May to August – Off; Sept to April – radiators only, timer on - 6am to 7am and 6pm to 7pm at 50 degrees

  • Turn off all the lights

  • Lock the front and back doors and wave goodbye until next time!

  • Please remember to put the key back in the keysafe under the bay window and scramble the code.
